Fresh Beats! Boxfresh Vs Mixmag

To mark the launch of our latest Autumn Winter collection, we asked MixMag to track down the six freshest artists that are going to be bursting onto your scenes in the coming months.

MyBoxfresh.com will keep you posted on the latest releases, videos and events being brought to you by:

Rapid
Rapid began scribbling his own lyrics at the tender age of 13, fusing them with garage instrumentals, and from then a career in music was set. Only a few years later he founded the critically acclaimed garage/ grime collective Ruff Sqwad, with Tinchy Stryder and Slix, producing hits ‘Tings In Boots’ and ‘Underground’. He’s since gone on to work with Kano and Asher D, the former So Solid Crew member and MOBO winner and is busy working on his own debut album.

Dirty Danger
Hailing from the streets of Bow, East London, young grime producer and rapper Dirty Danger has been hailed by some as the new Dizzee Rascal or Tinchy Stryder. The 22-year-old has produced six tracks for Tinchy and has signed to his ‘Star In The Hood/Takeover’ project through EMI. Dirty Danger has also gained acclaim for the sharp and comical lyrics on his new ‘Hard Body’ single, on which he rants about everything from Robert Mugabe through to girls with bad breath.

RacknRuin
Initially making his name producing breaks and drum ’n’ bass under many guises, including as part of The Equalizers, rackNruin has made the jump to a more electro-heavy sound, his new ‘Skitzo VIP’ track being hammered by scene leaders like Fake Blood. With lots of dramatic stabbing synths involved, he’s poured his electro-tech madness all over remixes for The Nextmen’s ‘Lion’s Den’ feat Groove Armada, and Ms Dynamite & Man Like Me’s ‘London Town’.

Tom from the Boogaloo Crew
One half of South London’s Boogaloo Crew, Tom Edwards has gained fame with the collective as they’ve been throwing their own Stick Up Kids parties, where their DJ sets range from hip hop and house with Baltimore and dubstep beats falling in between. Winning a residency at Trouble Vision has seen him play alongside heavy-hitters such as Rusko, Hervé, DJ Zinc and Mary Anne Hobbs. The crew’s sound is a manic, genrebusting mash-up of styles, sounds and sub-genres.

Oli D.A.B.
Alongside DJ and promotion partner Robin, Oli D.A.B. holds down residencies at London party Trouble Vision, which will be hitting UK cities later this year, as well as the duo’s own Superfilth!!! Party. Musically he lies at the housier end of the fidget sound; you’ll also find him dropping anything from tech to Baltimore to baile funk and consistently bassing it up. Currently in the studio with Robin, releases and remixes are pencilled in for before the end of the year.

CSY
London DJ and producer CSY started off promoting hip hop parties at just 16, but after becoming disillusioned with the scene started playing a mash-up of electro, breaks and house while incorporating his hip hop roots. His blog mixtapes for Dance For Glass have seen him win many admirers. Recently he’s remixed house classic ‘The Bomb’, by The Bucketheads, and Diplo’s ‘Must Be A Devil’ (supported by Diplo himself), bringing his bassline-driven bumps and broken beats to the fore.
