In The City 2009

In The City 2009

by Guy Purssell

&  Aimee Smith

After two years of presenting fringe events at In The City, Same Teens are pleased to announce that we’ve been invited as part of the Official 2009 line up.

If you are attending In The City get in touch and we’ll invite you to our Sunday brunch barbecue

(hosted by Boxfresh)

SUNDAY

We’ve got bands from New York, Tokyo, Berlin and all over the UK
For our opening gig we’ve teamed up with Artrocker Magazine to bring together six of the hottest new bands around. From Hatcham Social whose Tim Burgess produced debut album scored 10/10 in Vice and Artrocker and 8/10 in the NME to Wild Palms who took Offset Festival by storm in September!
Same Teens and Artrocker present:

HATCHAM SOCIALMY TIGER MY TIMINGwild palmstelevised_crimewave_01lr rocketswu lyf

Hatcham Social - They DJed at our first ever gig, and they have recently released their brilliant  debut album, You Dig The Tunnel, I’ll Hide The Soil. Think Orange Juice meets The Smiths. Wonderful and lo-fi.

My Tiger My Timing - Female fronted, indie synth pop is in, but with My Tiger My Timing it certainly isn’t stale.     Sidestepping the mainstream, they are currently sweet talking the likes of the insanely cool Kitsuna, who have just put them on their latest compilation.

Wild Palms - Expert syncopation, commanding, exhilarating  and generally fantastic, it’s no wonder that Wild Palms have already received much critical acclaim with their superb post-punk sound, despite not releasing a bean thus far.

Televised CrimewaveWe’ve been long time fans of  Televised Crimewave,€“ they played on the first night of our Mystery Jets gigs. Enviable on so many levels, they are certainly something to catch at an intimate venue.

LR RocketsGood old hectic pop, it’s rather hard to resist dancing to LR Rockets. They are a pulsating vision of how fun music should be.

Wu LyfWell Wu Lyf are really very fun and rather  saucy. They certainly won’t disappoint with their dreamy pop music.

MONDAY

Our line up on Monday runs from the cheeky Jamie T style musings of Graphic to The Law and Underground Heroes incendiary punk, finishing off with The Brute Chorus who are ready for their biggest year yet

The Brute ChorusAn Alternate/ Garage/ Folk Music band they are currently kicking up and out in the music industry with their folk explosions, blues & indie, and are doing  exceedingly well for themselves!  Well done guys!

Underground HeroesChatham Indie group that certainly have a lot to offer, fantastic and creative music style and not bad lookers either! They are simply the boys that everyone want’s to  be. Tours up and coming for this lovely lot. Look out for them.

GraphicAnother little London Gem! Fast paced and excitable, the best type of music showing uniqueness in music and vast creativity in the structure and the feel behind the lyrics.

The LawWith all the problems the uk faces in recent  times it is needless to say we need more bands like “The Law” with cheerful tunes such as “Don’t Stop, Believe” and “Satellite Television.” A great pick me up.

TUESDAY

Our closing gig is one of our most exciting line ups ever – Ezra Bang comes on like James Murphy fronting The Sugarhill gang while Asakusa Jinta’s hard marching ska brass sounds are unique – topped off with Bo Ningen’s prog and The Ray Summers doing what’s made them Scotland’s best kept secret

Ezra Bang and Hot MachineWith their aggressive Rage Against The Machine style vocals and buzzy synths, you can expect a glorious electro riot from these guys.

Asakusa JintaIf its different you’re looking for prepare to get your jig on with these guys as they take you on a foot tapping journey from rockabilly to 90’s punk.

Bo NingenThe best way to describe this band would be the cast of the mighty boosh with the experimental nature of the likes of tool and throwing all musical conventions out of the window in this wonderfully deranged cacophony of sound.

The Ray SummersFrom the chilled and carefree to the the speedy syncopations of ska look no further than this band. great fun to listen to look out for the new single “the shepherd”.

Each night us and the bands will be heading for The Voodoo Lounge where we’ve been given the run of the decks and where us and our friends will be playing music from 10pm till 3am each night. Free in with an In The City wristband. We’ve got DJ sets from some of our bands like My Tiger My Timing and Hatcham Social as well as some of Manchester’s best loved nights

Wild Palms and Wu Lyf were particular highlights on Sunday and Bo Ningen and Asakusa Jinta were the best prog psyche band and best brass ska band I’ve ever seen. Give them all a listen
