The Same Teens Dj’s are at it again

We’re Djing at The Ruby Lounge on the 4th December 2009. The lovely people at Lost and Found have put together one of the line ups of the year, we’ll be DJing and we’ve also got a couple of tickets to give away too so get entering the competition and we’ll see you there. Even if you don’t win it’s a fiver to catch one of our favourite bands and three bands we reckon will be doing much bigger gigs in 2010 and even if you’re skint you can win two tickets further down the page. We try and think of everything!

egpytian

Egyptian Hip Hop

One of the most talked about bands at Inn The City and for good reason. We’ve known the boys a while and wondered up they could live up to the hype of the ITC show and they more than did that. Check out Rad Pitt and see if you can pigeon hole them – we watched them with Tim Burgess and he mentioned both Japan and Roxy Music in the bands he thought they sounded a little like – not bad considering they’ve played less than a dozen gigs. The name is straight from the ’so bad it’s good’ file and they grow on us with every listen – they were The Guardian band of the day and were compared by them to Factory lefends Durutti Column and Qaundo Quango – Mike Joyce from The Smiths reckons Nick is the best young guitarist he’d seen since he first clapped eyes (or ears) on Johnnie Marr – and that was before the former Smith’s guitarist gave them some advice and a few pedals. They’re still all only 17 and if you’ve got tickets to the gig get yourself there in time to catch them. Miss them at your peril.

Are you excited about the gig and playing with the other bands?

yeah it should be fun! havent played at ruby lounge in awhile, wild palms sound good and our bros lost knives are playing too so should be rockin’. good shoes are gettin the love too so it should be a nice crowd.

Any surprises in store for us?

hmmm surprises. not any i can think of at the moment. maybe, who knows what the future holds.

2009 has been big for you guys, do you think that this gig will lead to something bigger?

2009 has been our only year for us so its certainly been goood and with every show we do we’ll probably just get better at what we’re doing so it should definitely/hopefully lead to something bigger.

Is this the last gig of the year for you?

last gig of the year.. i dont think so. im not sure. but probably not. we wanna do something on new years just to wave goodbye to 09 properly.

lost-knive

Lost Knives

The last band to play the much missed Channel M live sessions and another to get the music industry talking at In The City – since then they’ve played the BBC Electric Proms and been tipped by Huw Stephens and John Kennedy. The Manchester Evening news called them ‘Barbed, edgy and brimming with taut aggression, Lost Knives’ songs are like a masterclass in how to deliver epic, stirring rock intensity with more austere foundations’ and theirs no way we could come up with such muso speak so we just thought we’d pass their thoughts on to you. It’s the kind of music where people mention ‘a cathedral of sound and suchlike but fortunately we’re not those people. Like Delphic before them we reckon this lot will be the next new Manchester band to move up to bigger venues and get themselves a much wider audience

Are you excited about the gig?
We are – we always like playing The Ruby Lounge. It’s one of our favourite venues. We’re fans of the three other bands we’re playing with too, and we’re expecting a lot of people to be down so hopefully it should go really well.
What do you think about the other bands that are playing with you?
They’re great. Egyptian Hip-Hop are good friends of ours so we’re looking forward to sharing a bill with them, and I’ve been hearing great things about Wild Palms. It goes without saying Good Shoes will splendid, so all in all we’re gonna have to up our game!

Any surprises in store for us?

Nothing fancy – we’re hoping to play some new songs for the first time though so that should be interesting. We’d love something a bit over the top, but I don’t think you could get away with trapeze artists and fireworks in the Ruby Lounge. Shame.

2009 has been big for you guys, do you think that this gig will lead to something bigger?

Couldn’t possibly say. Ya never know – the right person may be watching us and something exciting could happen. We just hope it proves that we can play with good bands and hopefully next year we’ll get on tour with even bigger bands! We’re looking forward to 2010 anyway!
Is this the last gig of the year for you?
It isn’t! We have another gig at the Ruby Lounge. We’re playing at the Ruby Lounge christmas party supporting Detroit Social Club on the 19th December.

Wild Palms

Wild Palms

We first saw Wild Palms at Offset festival in the Summer and  were the stand out band in a veritable who’s who of what’s what in our kind of  music. Bearing in mind The Horrors, The Slits, Dananananaykroyd, A Certain Ratio played we hope this gives you an idea of quite how good they are. The NME called them ‘taut and glamourously dark’ – firstly why can we never think of phrases like that and, secondly, it looks like if you’re into your music ‘taut’ then there’s only one place to be. Since Offset they’ve played our In The City gig, we’ve DJ’d at their single launch in London and they have given us a track for the XOX Singles Club. If this doesn’t tell you how much we like them we’re not sure what will

Are you excited about the Good Shoes gig in December?

Yeah, we’ve just got off our Italy tour so we’ve got few days to get ourselves together and then go off with Good Shoes. it’ll be good for us because they’ll bring a certain crowd that we haven’t tapped into yet. so it will be good to get some feedback and gauge the reaction of the crowd

What about the other bands that you will be playing with?

I honestly don’t know who else is playing. I haven’t looked. the thing is I don’t really keep my ear to the ground with new music, I  just ending up hearing them when we play with them.

Any surprises in store for us at the gig?

you never know what is going to happen from gig to gig. town to town, you’re always faced with surprises so i’m sure they’ll be about, but no, nothing planned
Is this the last gig of the year for you?
no, we’re really busy at the moment. we’re finishing the year with a brace of xmas gigs on the 11th and 12th of December, the first at the Hoxton Squre Bar and Kitchen for Popular’s xmas party, and similar affair the next evening for Goldsmith’s (where apparently beer goes down to a £1 because they have to get rid of it out of term time)
2009 has been a big year for you guys. You’ve played In the City etc Do you think the Good Shoes gig is the start of something big to come for next year?
i hope so. like i said, we are essentially an underground band but who make music that fans of bands like Good Shoes can also find something they like in it; so the good shoes tour will be great for us because we’re settled on a sound at the moment that hopefully appeal to a big audience but will also satisfy muso’s and critics alike.

AND OF COURSE… NOT FORGETTING…

Good_Shoes

Good Shoes

Their first gig was supporting Mystery Jets and their second was for Artrocker Magazine and they were really nice to us when we were on the same bill in Hamburg (whatever else happens with what we do, it was worth it just to write that last bit). Anyhow we were being nice telling you about the other bands but if you’ve not heard Good Shoes either we’re wondering what you’re reading all this for. They’re the headliners for the best four band bill in Manchester all year and there’s not long left for anyone to top it. See you down the front

Are you excited about the gig?
yeah, we haven’t played a proper headline gig in Manchester in quite a long time, we played at the deaf institute a few months ago and that was pretty amazing so hopefully it will be as good as that, so far the gigs have been pretty crazy so hopefully Manchester won’t let us down, its normally a good place to play! and also i get to go swimming in an Olympic size pool in the day which is hard to do on tour!
What do you think about the other bands that are playing with you?
I’m really out of the loop about support bands, tom our drummer picks the bands that come on tour with us, we had la shark at the beginning of the tour who were amazing and at the moment its copy haho, they are great too, i think wild palms will be supporting at that show and I’m looking forward to hearing them, tom always bigs them up!
Any surprises in store for us?
not really, new songs, old songs, crowd surfing, the usual!

2009 has been big for you guys, do you think that this gig will lead to something bigger?

I don’t think 2009 has been that big, we were pretty silent for most of it recording the album, I think 2010 will be a lot of fun, touring, making videos, festivals and everything! hopefully we’ll get to play bigger venues and just tour the world, thats the idea! and hopefully pay my rent!

Is this the last gig of the year for you?

nope, there’s Bristol and London on the tour after and then were playing Hitchin again so a few more gigs and then a Christmas break then off everywhere next year!

XOX will be spinning some discs between bands and we thought we’d give some prior warning (or, you know, make it sound even more exciting) and give a list of some of the bands you might hear before, inbetween and after. (And I don’t want to say we will play JLS but I don’t want to say we wont either).

Its going to be an absolutely fantastic night. DON’T MISS IT!

Catherine Chisem won the tickets – but it’s only a fivwer anyway and there’s four bands so it’s almost like it’s free anyway isn’t it?

    See you there
