This year has been thee year of the novelty dance, in other words the ‘skank’. For all those who don’t know what a skank is, well it’s basically a dance that us ‘urban’ folk do whilst on the dance floor of a grime, UK funky, or bassline rave (we could add dubstep to the list, but the ‘drunkard with beer in right hand skank’, doesn’t look too pretty).

Top 5 Skanks Of 2009!

Migraine Skank
Gracious K has tormented the nation this year with his infectious Migraine Skank. From just a joke on YouTube, this track quickly became one of the biggest tracks to come from the underground scene and eventually got signed with an official video to go with it.

Swine Flu Skank
If you have suffered the dreadful Swine Flu this year then you should have definitely done this skank. The Swine Flu Skank was put together to show people what to do when coughing and sneezing into tissue. “Catch it bin it, kill it.’’

Tribal Skank
One of the more complicated skanks, the Tribal Skank, (created by urban duo Fr3e) was one that you had to master before trying it out in the clubs, otherwise you would’ve looked like a doughnut just like the man in their video.

Gunfinger Skank
The Gunfinger Skank is a dance move mostly associated with the grime audience. It’s when you put your fingers in a gun like position and put it in the air and wave it around profusely and although it isn’t a new one, it needs a mention because it will never go out of date. In the bars of Tinchy Stryder (pre-pop)… “Yeah let me see the gunfingers!’’

Stick Up Skank
One of our previous Keep An Eye On artists, Dotstar, made the Stick Up Skank (which is basically a skank which is a mix between the Gunfinger Skank and the Tribal Skank). The track is a bit more classier than the aforementioned, as it was one the ladies could get down to without hearing MCs rambling on the track and seeing little boys jumping around the club to.
