Fresh from his guest apperance on London’s Kiss100, I caught up with one of the most soulful producers pushing out music in the UK underground today. With two Grime CD’s under his belt, a monster EP on the way(Airmiles is on it, SNM), and more than a few UK Funky tunes comin soon, I quickly squeezed some info out of the rapidly rising composer.
For those who dont already know, Who is Swindle? What do you do?
Swindle is a 23 year old Londoner with a serious addiction to making music!!
How did you get the name Swindle?
I’m one of four brothers, the eldest called me Swindle from I was 12 or so (I was a mischievous kid *laughs*)
You currently have an ep(featuring the immense Airmiles track) forthcoming on the legendary Planet Mu label, how did you hook up with them?
The Planet Mu release came about after them hearing my Terror Danjah ‘SideChain’ remix on a ustream video posted by Elijah Butterz and Terror, I was literally approached the next day!
You’ve already got two very big LP releases under your belt “The 140 Mixtape” and “CV”, any plans for another CD? Or What else are you working towards at the moment?
My next release ‘Who Said Funk’ is out on the 15th March digitally, this E.P is my more soulful sound and illustrates my take on “UK Funky”. I’m also working a project with Elijah Butterz for his label and collating material for a full length Vocal album which is a serious mix of the Hard, jazzy, funk, twisted madness!! *laughs*
How do you go through the creative process?(what hardware do you use/which programs/how do you choose who your gonna work with etc)
I’m a Logic and Mac man, midi keyboard and plugin galore! Choosing who I work with is easy, especially producers. If I like your music I’ll reach out and more time the people who’s music I like, like mine.
What are your main influences?
My main influences I would say are old Funk, Jazz, Blues, Grime and D&B sounds crazy I know but my music collection is broad.
Who are you feeling in the UK right now?
Terroir Danjah, SRC 411, Rudekid, Calvin Harris, Nolay, Lioness, Marvell, A.L, Shea Soul, Chase n Status.
Who would you like to reach out to at the moment?
Its a tough question because there are so many good acts out there at the moment! I would say Calvin Harris.
What else have you got in the pipeline?
Bookings and releases, ‘Who Said Funk’ 15th march, Airmiles april/may, the E.P with Butterz june maybe and the vocal CD later in the year.

My next event is the 5days off Festival in Holland, I’m there on the 4th.
