Months of excitement has lead to this very moment – and we can’t wait for tonight.
Congratulations to those of you who won tickets to all the NME Awards tour gigs along the way and to the lucky few who will be going tonight. It promises to be an unforgettable evening, hosted by Angelos Epithemiou with acts like PJ Harvey (recipient of this year’s Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution To Music Award), My Chemical Romance and Foo Fighters performing live.
Dave Grohl is set to pick up the Godlike Genius award at the event, while Kasabian, Foals, Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys are among the acts nominated for other honours. We’re quite excited to see whether Pro Green picks up the award for Jungle featuring the very talented Maverick Sabre. And who will claim the Boxfresh Best New Band Award?
If you want to catch the live action, check out nme.com/awards or wait for the Channel 4 screening on Saturday.
The amazing Manchester four piece Everything Everything are embarking on the NME Awards Tour this week and are giving fans a chance to spend a whole day with them on that tour. Starting with breakfast with the band you get to hang out with them backstage, watch them soundcheck and then watch the gig too.
Well my names in the question. I’m a DJ, promoter, sometimes graphic designer, and i run a vegan crunk night… these days i’d like to think of myself primarily as a party dj, but not a typical cheesy one. I love to mix genres in my sets from hip hop and all it’s related genres to dance music from house and garage to dubstep and the odd DnB track and generally just try to play things in my own way, keep it quick and interesting.
Tell us about Livin’ Proof…
Well we’re just past our 3rd Birthday and things are going well. The 4 of us who run it (myself, Rags, Snips and Budgie) all met at Deal Real records where you’d usually find us on a friday evening when they did the instores (or behind the counter in the day where some of us got paid in vinyl to work). When we started the night it was the only night of its kind playing the type of hip hop we loved so more than anything it was just a great party for us to play tunes we couldn’t play elsewhere and for like minded music heads to get together and have a party. I think it was last May when we left Marketplace and moved The C.a.m.p. in Old Street, the Queue’s we used to get at Marketplace were insane, was literally one in one out by 9pm, so the move to a bigger venue was a good one. We’re still doing the nights Vs Work It which are always a lot of fun, so expect more of them now and then, we’ve had the odd big gig here and there, and we’re off for a couple of dates in Germany in March, playing Cologne at their carnival and at Hip Hop Dont Stop in Berlin.
You were dj’ing on the Boxfreshers ‘10 Tour. Any funny / memorable moments we should know about?
I think the most best moment of the tour was after the Bristol show, and after 3 days without one, finally getting a shower! But yeah was a lot of fun being on tour, the bus was dope, everyone on tour was great, we had our ups and downs along the way, but ultimately was a lot of fun and met some great people. Was a great experience.
iPhone or Blackberry?
Cant live without my iPhone
What movies have you been watching recently?
Black Dynamite is one of the funniest films i have ever seen, first saw it when i last played in germany back in October and seen it a good few times since. Make sure you watch it. Apart from that saw 127 hours the other week which was good, and I really need to see Black Swan asap.
…and what music have you been listening to / playing out?
Skillit’s Ready 2 Light is dope, Kanye & Jay-Z’s HAM, Debruit’s Nigeria What (although thats kinda old now), still loving All of the Lights and Black and Yellow although they’ll prob be overplayed very soon if not already. biggest tune last year has got to be Gatto Viola’s Backstabbin’ Angie re-edit been in pretty much every set i’ve played since I got it in October.

I’ve been mostly working towards getting some vocal stuff out in 2011(artists are long), but I do have two instrumental EP’s dropping very soon. Check out the early preview of the first below.
Just Geo – The Milky Way EP 1. Deus Ex Machina
2. Milky Way
3. Galactus
4. Dark Matter
That is dropping in February on MVN Audio, and for those who don’t already know about me make sure you go and check out Under The Influence which is out right now.
Second EP is pretty different to the above and it’s called FTW, I’ll be releasing a whole heap of information about that in the near future…(no point telling people about two EP’s at once) …but for now here’s a clip of Boy Better Know spitting over one of the forthcoming beats.
Also I’ve started raping my soundcloud with random audio, so make sure you regularly check it out for stuff like old vocals from 2003-2007 to new bangers.. or just stuff that has no purpose.
In fact here’s something random I made that has me slightly gassed…
The NME AWARDS TOUR starts in exactly two weeks from today in Glasgow on the 3rd of February with an amazing line-up – needless to say we are very excited. Magnetic Man, Crystal Castles, Everything Everything and The Vaccines are playing thirteen dates all over the country (Tour dates below).
Here’s the video for new Magnetic Man track ‘Getting Nowhere’ as a bit of a taster:
Full UK Tour + many more London dates with amazing artists like Carl Barat, White Lies, Yuck and many more…

For those who don’t know you, give us an introduction…
I’m DJ Cable – multi-award winning DJ, sneaker head and DIY enthusiast. I play a mixture of Hip Hop, Dubstep, Grime & Electronica, and have a tendency to be sarcastic.
What did you do at the weekend?
I had a rare weekend off from DJ-ing, so I went out in East London for the evening, got drunk, and ended up sleeping on Khalil’s sofa.
Tell us how you got into music, and doing what you do now…
I heard scratching on various Hip Hop mixtapes and records, thought it sounded cool and wanted to try it out. I blagged a budget set-up, and it progressed from there really! My taste in music has somewhat changed a little along the way, but I still keep to my Hip Hop roots with my sets, productions, mixtapes, etc.
You’re 3 times DMC Champ (and champ of a few other things too actually). We’re all ears…
Rather than go out and party like the rest of my friends when I was 16, I locked myself in my rooms and focused on how to scratch records back and forth. I started entering battles in 2003; lost a few, won a few, and eventually managed to become 3x DMC UK Team Champ (as part of Bionic Stylus), as well as win a few mix competitions (Dogs On Acid Comp, Alizé Remixed Comp, etc).
I’ve retired from solo battles now to concentrate on doing shows, working with artists, producing music and running a digital label (Triangulum), but I’ll still keep doing the Team battles – they’re a lot of fun.
Send us one of your favourite YouTube clips…
If you could work with anyone in the world, who would it be?
Joker. His sound is incredible… I’m still trying to figure out how me makes some of those synth sounds. The dude’s too good!
What can readers expect to see from DJ Cable on the Boxfresh blog?
Anything from sneaker posts, to DIY tips, random scratch videos from myself or of other DJs that I rate, new music, mixes, and a lot more…Maybe more videos of talking pets. There’s even a husky that can say “I love you”. Awesome stuff.
