Rock the “Sport’ Bar!!

oldst2

A quiet one for The Kicks last week,

We played at Belushi’s, London Bridge with a few of the other finalists from this years Emergenza festival, quite an “intimate” venue to say the least. Sports bar by day, gig venue full of students by night! Pretty good atmosphere tho, the small room means it seems pretty busy regardless of how many people are there! We made it down ther around 3pm for sound check. The sound engineer wasnt there (as usual) so to pass the time we sat watching the cricket upstairs (rock’n'Roll eh). After sinking several jars, we headed down to set up. The PA system had a very weird set up with speakers pointing in crazy directions to stop the reverb from the bare walls! Later after all the sound checks the room started to fill. Despite the PA system it did sound pretty good.

The first band was great ‘The Arts Factory’ with a very cute female singer, funky bass and indie guitar tones.

Red Shark in Vegas really stood out (as well as us obviously). Really cool indie accoustic guitars played at full volume with destortion in places, backed by some awesome drumming! Make sure you check those guys out if they’re playing near you.

The metal band after us kinda trashed the place courtesy of their five friends but by then we had safely made it to the bar! The rest is left to history, a blury one!

Friday night we headed to Camden early on for a “meeting” with the Emergenza festival organizers. They wanted to go through a few things and prep us before our show at this years Taubertal Festival in Germany, we are all really looking forward to it now. The meeting started off on a serious note, but once technical stuff was out the way it soon developed into a full on drinking session!… Doh, we never seem to control that, however good our intentions are to start with!

Work on our website has been taking place this weekend, will let you know when it’s up and running. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pinned!

We have a couple of weeks away from live shows now, mainly to prepare ourselves for Germany. We really want to nail our performance and show everyone just how good we are. We are representing the UK afterall & don’t wanna let anyone down so its back the studio for some full on rehearsal!!

Well thats the previous week in the wintery land of the Kicks

Catch you soon people

Mucho Love

Photo Shoots & Fan Stealing!

Hi, just a round up of last week for ya.

alleyfinallogo

Tuesday was the first day of any notable action last week. we headed over to the O2 academy in islington to take part in the JAR Music Breakout Festival, I feel a rant coming on……yep here it is……. is it just us or have battle of the bands turned into battle of the fans?

It seems like if you enter competitions with good intentions of raising your profile, you totally get screwed over when you come up against bands that consists of talentless sixth formers who insist on bringing their entire college.

Song writing & stage presence goes out of the window & in it’s place comes a battle of who brings the largest group of teenagers, who come along in blind faith to support guys that have to do their maths homework when they leave!…….but enough ranting now!

Having had so much support for our other competitions we took but a hand full with us to the O2 academy II gig. Resulting in failure to progress in the competition. However there is plenty to shout about!!!

Straight after our set the organizers asked us to play a showcase gig for them in October, this will be in the main hall on the main stage at the O2 academy. AWESOME!!!

We also had a very interesting ‘post set’ conversation with a record label rep called Ell (more on that soon we hope).

But the icing on our cakes was when’fans’ of the other bands said we were the best by far and asked for our CD’s and myspace etc. So we may have picked up some new followers if nothing else!

Thursday came along and Blake and Chris were sizing up belushi’s in camden for an intimate acoustic gig. the mix of a few re-worked TWK tracks and some covers (with a little TWK twist in there to make them our own) seemed to go down better than the free bar Andy had been at before he headed down to the venue!

Apart from a few technical issues with a crackling wire (which kinda sounded cool), the set went well. Chris had only played through some of the songs once before hand but got through it all no worries.

We then had an early rise on Saturday for a photoshoot around shoreditch, farringdon and camden. lots of posing and lots of people looking at their mates saying “do you recognise them?” good for the ego, but the rain wasn’t good for the cameras! One resulting photo is the one you can see above. Don’t we look handsome? Its a bit cheesy but you can see us all! This pic actually taken in the stairwell of our block of flats. Nice….urban….or just urban?

ne’yway, that’s been this week in the world of The Winter Kicks

thanks for your eyes
