Teaming up with Liverpool’s Drome Store, Boxfresh are proud to be bringing you an exclusive student lock in where guests can expect a 20% discount on the night and a live acoustic performance from one of the UK’s most exciting new bands, Frankie & The Heartstrings. Boxfresh and Drome will be welcoming in students on Wednesday 26th Oct (5 – 9pm) so don’t miss out!

NME favourites Frankie & The Heartstrings are a Sunderland five-piece with a modern approach to traditional songwriting, hewing infectious songs out of deceptively simply melodies and arrangements. As well touring with Florence & The Machine and The Futureheads, the band played to huge crowds at Bestival, Reading & Leeds, T in the Park, and Glastonbury. This year saw the release of their eagerly awaited  LP ‘Hunger‘.

Drome is a Liverpool based fashion retailer stocking Boxfresh and other aspirational brands. They pride themselves on being locally relevant having been established in Liverpool for over 15 years. There are two stores within the city centre.

First of all GrimeDigital(grimeforum/grimepedia/etc) is gonna be expanding, in a whole number of ways, but you can check out the first two power moves here, we now have Grimevids.com and GrimeTshirts.com.

They both pretty much speak for themselves. After the phenomenal amount of hits our youtube channel started receiving after we uploaded that remix we decided it was time, to build a new site where users, could actually log on to find nothing but the best Grime video’s, from unknowns to the established, doesnt really matter, as long as it is Grime.

As for the T-Shirts, well, you may have seen our GrimeDigital MD aka Tom ‘Hij’ Higham rocking the infamous Grime jumper’s at pretty much every rave/event worth attending, and the sheer envy/jealousy directed towards him was enough to make them available to the general public. (this may or may not be partly true lol)

There have been quite a few huge releases this month as well, I’ll concentrate on the instrumental side of things, because those damn MC’s usually get most of the attention.

Just Grime:001 was released on the 17th of this month, and is a compilation featuring 12 instrumental tracks from 4 of the best underated Grime producers out there. I’ve been banging out some of these tunes from Moony, Bouncer, Jack Daniels, and Exo Remedy, for more than a year now and its great to see them finally get a release.

Also Mr Mitch has just dropped “The Fright night EP“, the original being another favourite of mine, and has included 4 excellent remixes in the EP package. The Deset remix is a madness, trust me. Also while you’re getting that make sure you go and purchase the next release from the Butterz camp, The Quality street EP which also features Mr.Mitch alongside, Royal T, Terror Danjah, and SRC.

As we move further into the final quarter of the year we’ll be preparing for the Grime Awards 2010, and this year promises to be bigger and better than the previous years, (shout out to everyone who came down to the last rave to celebrate the occasion). I’ll be releasing more details on that in the coming weeks, but for now we’ve just finished a Producer competition, and after 49 great entries, plus a whole lot of debate, we’ve finally found our 4 winners, and will be releasing material from them very soon. Make sure you also look out for “Grime at its Purest.” Which will be available at the end of October, and will feature some of the hardest exclusive freestyles from the scene’s rising stars, alongside some of the great established microphone controllers.

That all changed on Sunday. In Muizenberg, where the only Grime is the remains of seaweed on the pavement.

We went walking and came across this store:

Its a 2nd hand bargain bin kind of place, where you can find the odd gem amongst the junk, like these golden tights (oh yeah):

And guess what we found!

On August 20, 24 and 25, Sarah Young and Red Bull UK will be teaming up with a string of innovative artists from the music industry to help launch the Music Class of 2010 project.

Music Class of 2010 is a multi-media editorial concept, which includes those musicians and producers who don’t simply top the charts, but create music with artistic integrity.

Twenty-one year old DJ and Stylist Sarah Young and internationally renowned photographer Satoshi Minakawa are the creative team behind the project, the cast list of which is scheduled to include the following: -

Toddla T (UK producer)
Redlight (UK producer)
Swindle (UK producer)
Jammer (MC)
J2k (MC)
Donaeo (Artist)
Mz Bratt (Female MC)

The editorial will be launched at the Red Bull HQ in London, where in November the artists involved will create an exclusive track in just two hours within the VIP music studios adjacent to the event, which will be streamed live online and into the media event next door via TV screens.

Creative director of the project Sarah Young explains her vision: “As a DJ and Fashion stylist, I deal with music and fashion on a daily basis. The two are inextricably linked – right now the UK music scene is the best it’s ever been and receiving international recognition.

“These artists, dj’s and producers are the people at the forefront of street trends, they are the people who wear what they want, when they want and others follow. As a stylist I am going to take each artists style and multiply that by 10, whilst giving each look a high fashion edge.

“Music is a form of expression, and so is fashion and this project signifies the cultural importance of this fusion.”

Sarah is going to be working with a selection of labels including D&G, Lavin, Vivienne Westwood Man, Armani, Balenciaga, Burberry, Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Matthew Williamson, Nike, and Harrods, as well a selection of ‘New Gen’ designers.

Confirmed acts include TheWinterKicks, TheTorriano’s, Alan Wass, ColourOfSound and a few other individuals and a possible appearance from Pete Doherty!

So if you just fancy helping save an ever dying British culture come along for a few drinks and good times!
There will be a BBQ outside, music upstairs, live music downstairs and donation buckets all around!

Suzie the Landlady is only part lease owner and the council are trying to buy everyone out! If they succeed it will become dingy little flats and yet another quality local London pub will bite the dust! So Suzie is trying to raise money to buy out the others and keep the pub alive

Torriano is popular with celebs and locals alike. Great staff, great cocktail pitchers, beers, crepes, BBQ’s, friendly atmosphere, its a winner! It has yet to be ruined by wannabe trendies & celeb chasers (like the Hawley Arms has)

Noel Fielding, Russell Brand, Simon Amstell + many more use it as a warm up venue, Pete Doherty and his droogs, often frequent the venue and last week, Razorlight (minus Johnny) were having a drink and a crepe, ex Happy Mondays Kav is always around and its one of the few bars left in London with regulars that aren’t bearded old guys with dogs on string leads!

The Torrianos will be playing as they are obviously the resident band made up of the Landlay and the bar staff but most important of all….

……….we live next door!!!!!
Hence, we are passionate about keeping our local going!

Laura Keeble is my kinda artist. She makes clever visual metaphors and uses popular iconography and gives them a totally new, different meaning ( Andy Warhol anyone?)

She once said the graveyard installation below was to do with religion, but i read much more meaning into it than just simply that. In my view through placing the Chanel and Mcdonalds logo directly on top of the gravestone ( a recognisable symbol of death) Keeble is commenting on the worth and perhaps the effect of capitalism. Big brands have no individual face or life behind them, so if you buy into them part of your individuality dies, if you buy into a faceless brand, you loose face.

Whatever the meaning, this is pretty sick right?
