Mixmag raved about them, Dazed and Confused asked them for tips on what to listen to, they DJ on tour with The Charlatans, they curate stages at festivals and they write one of Erol Alkan's favourite fanzines. They even made a film featuring the likes of Rufus Wainwright and Mystery Jets. Same Teens sprung up less than three years ago when, fed up with getting knocked back from clubs and gigs for over 18s, and 15 and 16 themselves they decided they'd just do their own club night and gigs - they got Manchester's coolest DJs from nights like Now Wave and Up The Racket and legends like Clint B and got the use of a floor in a warehouse/practice room/ and they started a regular night.

Bands soon got to here and they got asked to DJ for the likes of Cajun Dance Party, Black Kids, Metronomy and even backstage for Iggy and The Stooges - playing records for the likes of The Horrors and Tricky! Tricky liked them so much he booked them to DJ for him. They started putting on regular gigs and people like Foals, Dead Disco (featuring Little Boots), Esser, and The Kabeedies and things were looking up.

So much fun was being had they felt they had to tell people about it - so next up they started XOX, their magazine, featuring interviews with everyone from The Maccabees, We Are Scientists and Noah and The Whale - they did their own fashion shoots and worked with iconic photographers like Gavin Watson. 8000 readers a month were downlloading their Singles Club tracks from the likes of The Virgins and Poppy and The Jezebels and Same Teens sprung up in Japan and Australia - with the Aussies doing their own fanzine, but called XOZ (geddit?). They did special editions at The Isle of Wight and Manchester International Festival and printed a limited run of 500 for Manchester In The City convention.

The original group behind Same Teens got old enough to DJ at over 18s events and clubs and got to play alongside Mat Horne and Mystery Jets - they played at The Secret Garden Party, Saturday night from 10pm till midnight at Dockville Festival in Hamburg where MGMT headlined and curated a stage at kendal Calling where the likes of Tommy Sparks, Chew Lips and The Answering Machine rocked their tent. They were invited to put an event together for Manchester Internatioanl Festival alongside the likes of Kraftwerk and Elbow.

So now they've got over 18s nights, all ages nights, venues at The Camden Crawl, their own merchandise and some of the coolest bands playing for them. Their In The City line ups read like a who's who of what's what in the world of new music - Hatcham Social, My Tiger My Timing, Wild Palms - bands from New York like Ezra Bang & Hot Machine and even marching ska bands from Tokyo. Tim Burgess is DJing at their aftershow party and Mark Ronson is rumoured to be putting in an appearance.

They always welcome new contributors and ideas and have always got stuff going on - after In The City they've got a quick jaunt round the country DJing at some low key Charlatans gigs.

Give them a shout, you'll like them

    Time For Heroes? Student protests

Students in other parts of the world have always been linked with a bit of political activity. The 1968 riots in Paris are almost the ultimate in protest chic. Unfeasibly cool, gitane smoking upstarts, sucking on lemons to counteract the police tear gas, while trashing the place in the most stylish way possible. British students [...]

    House Party 7….The Haunted House Party….in 3D

Photos: Craige Barker You know the script, a group of good looking teenagers (OK, OK, we might not be either) are holed up in a basement with the doors locked. Fear grips them as they don’t know what the next few hours will bring. News has got through that over 500 dribbling, zombies will descend on them [...]

    House Party 6

Photos by Victor Frankowski   There’s the old saying from Field Of Dreams, ‘Build it and they will come’ but nobody said anything about ‘build it, break most of it, build it again – one more time in a tent, in a field and stick it all in a van and drive it to London…and they will [...]

    HOUSE PARTYYYYYY!

Our house party concept (recreating that intimate party in a homely setting – but in a club!) has had a great response since it’s launch at Ruby Lounge in Manchester, so we decided that it was time to bring it to London! And we couldn’t have found a better partner (and venue) in Counter Culture [...]

    House Party 3, 4 & 5

Photos: Craige Barker   A party that goes on for three days – one that started in July and finished in August – was bound to throw in a few adventures and to say it was the best 72 hours ever doesn’t quite capture how good it was.  The statistics kind of allude to the mayhem – over [...]

    Glastonbury – Sunday

Another early morning start and this time it’s the hottest day of the year. A call home confirms it’s the hottest weather since 1929 and it seems even the highest known powers are helping with the 40th birthday celebrations – like statistics coming from a war zone, we’re being bombarded with numbers. Over 1,000 treated [...]

    Glastonbury – Saturday

The middle day of a 3 day festival is always a little odd – like the eye of the storm. You’ve had a day to get used to your surroundings and adapt a little and there’s still a full day afterwards. It’s hard to remember life in the real world and your return is still [...]

    Glastonbury – Friday

People think Glastonbury is all about sitting in the chillax field, propped up against a teepee shooting the breeze with a couple of ld grizzled hippies. Well let us tell you – we’ve never been so busy in our lives. We arrived on Thursday morning and the haystack that was the festival contained the needles [...]
